Survey For Money - A Genuine Opportunity Or a Waste of Time?

You only need to type in the words "survey for money" or something similar to see what a huge market this is. The search engines return millions of pages on the subject. Click on any of the links and you'll no doubt be taken to a website with pictures of sports cars, mansions and tropical islands. These websites will have headlines trying to convince you that by spending a few hours a day filling in a form you'll be a millionaire by the end of the year.

Absolute nonsense right? Well actually the answer to this is yes and no. Yes it's nonsense in the sense that whilst you might become a millionaire it won't be in pounds or dollars. Perhaps Japanese Yen! However, it's not nonsense in the sense that it is a genuine way to earn a very decent second income. Many people are members of online survey sites and if you're not then you are potentially missing out on some easy and quick money.

Quick and easy money you say?....Tell me more

You can easily complete several surveys a day and depending on their length you can earn anything from $5 to $85. If you fit the right profile and are quick of the mark, there are also opportunities to get involved in focus groups. This can really bring home the bacon as they can pay up to $350 for around 2 hours work!

It can't be that easy...surely?

OK, there are some factors to bear in mind. Firstly, the best survey for money sites have a fairly high membership level so you need to monitor your email fairly regularly to make sure you get accepted. Companies will usually specify that they want 200-500 responses so not everyone will be able to complete the survey.

You might not fit the profile for some of the surveys. If you're an 18 year old girl you can't fill in a survey about medical treatment for prostate cancer! You can try, however, I advise you not to. You will soon find yourself banned from a legitimate survey site if they find out you've been lying to get accepted to complete surveys you shouldn't have been applying for.

I'm skeptical...why would a company pay me just to give my opinion?

Because your opinion is valuable information. You are a member of the public and a consumer. Businesses make huge profits because people like you buy their goods and services. To keep ahead of their competition they need to know what the marketplace is thinking. They need to know what's good about their products and what's not. You provide them with this information. They take it on board and improve their offering. They make more sales and profits and they pay you for helping them to do so. They ask you to complete a survey for money because they know you won't waste your time completing a survey for free. Everybody wins.

That makes sense. What are my next steps?

Do some research so that you have a good idea about which sites are legitimate and have been paying money for a few years. There are many places you can go and a good starting point is this free report on the online surveys industry to help you find a legitimate survey for money site.
